Our next SUPERLEAGUE on Friday November 26th at 7.30pm promises to be an exciting one. We have given priority to travelling British League Premier Division clubs and we have  expanded this one to 48 players. The likes of Ryan Jenkins, Gavin Rumgay and last month's winner Darius Knight (see report on ETTA website ) will be battling for a total of £350 including £200 for the winner on the night. Such is the strength that Progress number 1, the superb Po Huang (Barry) Chen, with 3 SUPERLEAGUE titles to his name, is only seeded 6.
Don't forget it's all part of a spectacular weekend's table tennis at BATTS with British League Prem on the Saturday and Sunday  (including Barrow v Drumchapel)  interspersed with Wales v Southern England in a "friendly" international ladies match at 6pm on the Saturday evening. I can guarantee that it will be well worth watching.

The BATTS Junior 1 Star tournament will take place on  8th/9th January 2011. Please fill in the Entry Forms if you wish to enter.

Our sponsors, Topspin Sports, are putting on a bat testing night from 7pm on Friday 19th November as part of normal club night.
It's a great opportunity to try out blades and rubbers and see what suits you best. You can take advantage of the 30% club discount and have your new bat made up for you by Topspin.
A reminder too that the Harlow Championships are next Monday and Wednesday at 8pm.

The Halloween weekend BATTS One Star Open Tournament was held at the home of BATTS Table Tennis Club, the Norman Booth Centre, Old Harlow on 30/31 October with players from as far away as Sussex, Norfolk and Bedfordshire travelling to compete but mainly dominated from those within the M25 ring and 120 entries. In all events except one round robin Girls event every player proceeded from the Group Stages into the Main or Consolation event KO stages.

The Harlow Championships are on Monday 15th and Wednesday 17th November at BATTS starting at 8pm. Events are Senior, Vets , over 60s, U11, U15, U18 and  senior doubles.  Also restricted events for lower division players.
Please let Neil know for which events you wish to be entered. There is no charge to play in this tournament.

England no. four and second seed Darius Knight was the winner of the first BATTS Super-League of the Season played at the BATTS Club in Old Harlow on Friday 29 October 2010. Darius walked away with a cheque for £300.00 after beating fellow Barrow Table Tennis Club British League player and Scottish no. one Gavin Rumgay in the final 11-13, 11-7, 11-8, 11-4.

The final did not finish until well after mid-night and it says a lot for the excitement that this event generated that a sizeable audience stayed to watch. “If you are going to get home at 01.00 hours on a Saturday morning then what difference does half an hour make” seemed to be the relaxed atmosphere that many people took.

There were shocks galore, and England no. seven lady Lauren Spink featured in the biggest one of all. Playing superbly she ousted Scottish international Niall Cameron, winning a spell-binding game 11-5, 12-14, 12-10, 7-11, 14-12. She then took a 2-1 lead against third seed Kazeen Adisa Adekeke and an even bigger shock appeared on the cards. Lauren eventually succumbed 9-11, 11- 6, 11-9, 7-11, 4-11. Adekeke eventually missed out to Darius Knight in a close semi-final 12-14, 8-11, 9-11 : further proof if any was needed, of just how well Lauren had played.

Evangeline Collier played in the Women's Open and the under 21 tournament at the Peterborough Grand Prix recently. In the Women's Open, she was in a group with the the number 6 ranked woman in the country, and the number 1 veteran player in England; Evie is ranked 68, so she should not have got out of the group. She beat Sue Collier, the number 1 veteran, and lost to the number 6, but managed to take a game off her, and she beat the third player in the group. She managed to get out of the group as runner up.

In the next round, she had to play Kelly Skeggs, ranked 57. Evangeline beat her 3-0, to set up a quarter final with Lauren Spink, ranked 7 in the country. Evangeline played very well, going down 3-0, but with scores of 13-11, 11-9, 11-9, which is close; Lauren went on to lose the final.
Evangeline also played in the under 21 competition, and, after a loss in the group to Jasmin Ould, went on to make it to the final, where she once again met Jasmin. This time, Evangeline won 3-0, to be crowned Under 21 Champion at the tender age of 16

Again spectators welcome and note that throughout the 3 days our sponsors Topspin Sports will be represented by John and Tom and club members can enjoy a full range of equipment at a 30% discount.
