Table Tennis for All

On Sunday 17th July 3 BATTS teams competed to qualify for next season's Junior British League.
BATTS team 4, with youngsters Christian Gibson, Ben Holland, Ethan Walsh and Charlie Williams fought hard, but unfortunately didn't manage to end in the top 2 of their group.

BATTS team 3, comprising of Charlie Baines, Bradley Osbourne and Ryan Williams ended as runner up in the group phase. In the knock out round they were stopped by the team from Guernsey (BATTS lost 3-0).
Really exciting were the matches the girls played. With Lucy Collier at home with an injury, the team comprising of Stephanie Cross, Lara Esquivel and Emily Godfrey didn't lose a group match. Unfortunately 3 draws and 1 win were not enough to win the group. As runner-up they playerd two rounds in the knock out. The girls were close, but didn't make it. In their last match Lara lost 12-10 in the fifth, which let to a 2-1 loss and not being qualified for the JBL. We hope they can still enter JBL if another team pulls out.

Trials to establish rankings for Essex Juniors will be held at BATTS on the weekend of 1st and 2nd October. You can download further information and the entry form HERE.

If you are under 18 and would like a chance to be considered for selection to be in regional training squads, here is your chance!

Two of our juniors were in the team competing in the Hertfordshire Youth Games on 18th June.  Luke Jones and Sam Scott were part of the squad coached for the event by Graham Frankel. The team represented East Herts, playing nine matches against each of the other districts of Hertfordshire.  The team performed very well, winning seven out of their nine matches and walking away with the bronze medal. East Herts were the overall winners of the Youth Games, although it was a real team effort because no individual sport finished higher than 3rd.

Anyone who has looked in at one of the recent "Elite" hardbat tournaments will not want to miss the next one which is on Sunday 3rd July. Hardbat takes table tennis to a new dimension as a spectator sport with exciting extended rallies.  So make a note of the date and look in at BATTS.  Entry for spectators is free and refreshments will be available all day.
If you are interested in entering the tournament, there is still time - but don't delay because the entry is strictly limited.
Download the entry form HERE.
See HERE for a report on the last hardbat tournament which had a celebrity guest taking an interest.

Congratulations to JARED PATEL on being chosen for the England Cadet team to play at the European Youth Championships in Russia in July.
