What a weekend for the Walshes

04 Jul 2013

The weekend of 29th and 30th June 2013 will be long remembered by the highly talented Walsh family. Young Ethan stormed his way to a silver medal at the Mini Cadet Masters Championships in Burton. He had been seeded 6th but finished second with only two defeats. Ethan's conquests included the U12 national champion Harry Dai. Ethan is only 11 and has another season at this level. Ethan has now been selected to play for England at the "Euro Minis" in August. His trip to Europe is self funding and to help him pay for the event a fund-raising page has been established:  Click HERE to go to the page.
Meanwhile, two other members of the family were already on international duty during the magic last weekend of June!  Luke played for England in the International Schools tournament on the Isle of Man. He won a gold medal in the team event as England defeated Wales 3-2 in the final. Luke lost only once in this event. In the individual event on the Sunday Luke beat number one seed Scott Barton from Scotland in the quarters and only lost in 5 to Chris Griffiths in the semis. So he picked up a bronze to go with his gold.
Jimmy Walsh was not to be outdone by the achievements of his sons. Playing for England B in the International tournament at Tipton, Jimmy picked up a bronze in the team event on the Saturday. had a great run in the singles on the Sunday including a win over a fine German player and eventually lost to a Pole in the quarters.
The photos below show Ethan, Luke (along with the rest of the players at the Isle of Man) and Jimmy.
