Luke Jones wins the BATTS 1* Under 18!

10 Mar 2013

It has been a great year so far for Luke Jones. At the BATTS 1* tournament on 9th March he stormed through some tough opposition to win the Under 18 boys singles. This is a magnificent achievement for Luke reflecting his hard work in training at BATTS, where he began playing only a few years ago. Luke's path to victory included magnificent wins against three opponents who are currently ranked well above him in the national junior rankings. In the semi-final he beat Sacha Somers (ranked 311 places higher) and in the final he destroyed Livingston Nadarajah who is ranked 207 places higher).  Just a week earlier, Luke had led the BATTS B team to victory in Division 2 of the National Junior League held at Ellenborough.

Luke's great achievement was not the only success for BATTS players in our tournament. The competition gave some valuable opportunities for our youngsters to get competition experience close to home. Here are some of the other highlights from our players:
In the U16 Boys event Sam Lowman reached the semi final and Paul Munns the semi final of the consolation.
In the U15 Boys, James Knudsen reached the quarter final losing to Sam Liu (Berks) the eventual winner. Louis Henderson reached the quarter final of the consolation losing to the eventual winner.
In the U13 Boys Casey Mansfield played well to get to the final of the consolation event, losing to Rhys Evans (Herts).
In the U15 Girls Jess Jarvis reached the semi final and Emma Knudsen lost in the final of the consolation to Danielle Kelly.
Congratulations to all who took part.  For those who didn't, make sure you keep looking out for more competitions coming up in the next few months - they will be posted on this site and notifications sent to parents by email.
